Hot off stellar reviews for her performance in “Room,” Brie Larson is in talks to replace Emma Stone as Billie Jean King opposite Steve Carell‘s Bobby Riggs in “Battle of the Sexes,” TheWrap has learned.

“Little Miss Sunshine” filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will direct the Fox Searchlight project from a script by Simon Beaufoy. Danny Boyle will produce under his Decibel Films banner along with Christian Colson of Cloud Eight.

King was 29 years old when she beat 55-year-old former Wimbledon champion Riggs in a 1973 match known as the “Battle of the Sexes,” which captured the public zeitgeist.

Larson just wrapped Ben Wheatley’s crime drama “Free Fire” and she’s set to play the female lead in Legendary’s troubled tentpole “Kong: Skull Island.”
