Brittany Maynard’s Death Divides ‘The View’: ‘Why Didn’t She Just Wait?’ (Video)

Rosie Perez questions death with dignity while Whoopi Goldberg says, “If I get ill, I’m going”

The death of terminally ill Brittany Maynard was met with sadness as well as confusion on Monday morning’s “The View.”

Rose Perez once again questioned whether or not the 29-year-old made the right decision in ending her life on Sunday after being diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer in January.

“I have to say, I said it before, if my dear sister Carmen even entertained the thought, it would be really difficult for me,” Perez said. “People criticized me for that. They were like, ‘well it’s not up to you, it’s up to her.’ I totally get it. Still, I have the right to feel upset about it.”

Rosie O’Donnell called Maynard’s last Facebook post, “beautiful,” saying that her final written words were: “Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!”

“It’s a really touchy subject,” Perez said. “I’ve watched a lot of my friends suffer and I literally watched them take their last breath when AIDS was really big in this country. One of my friends was saying, ‘let me go, let me go’ and I get that, but this woman was still so full of life. Why didn’t she just wait?”

Co-host Nicolle Wallace called Maynard, “brave,” while Whoopi Goldberg went so far as to say she would take identical measures if she were in Maynard’s situation and suffering from a terminal illness.

“If I get ill, I’m going, because I don’t want anybody to feel bad about spending any more money,” Goldberg pledged. “If I’m going to go, let me go.”
