“Captain America” star Chris Evans stepped out of character Tuesday to scold America.

“This is an embarrassing night for America. We’ve let a hatemonger lead our great nation,” tweeted the actor. “We’ve let a bully set our course. I’m devastated.”

He was talking about Donald Trump, if you haven’t been following the news.

Evans choice of words was interesting: In the Marvel Comics universe, there’s a villain named Hate-Monger who is a clone of Adolf Hitler.

Trump’s success left Americans glued to their screens, some with their mouths agape. Stock market futures plummeted. Hollywood freaked. And now Captain America is upset with us.

Evans’ tweet quickly received 40,000 likes. One person asked, “Save us captain.”

Anther fan replied to the actor’s comments with a comic-book picture of Captain America in tattered clothes, sitting on the floor with his head down looking very despondent.

As of this writing, Trump was close to scoring the 270 electoral college votes he will need to become America’s 45th president. Trump received many comparisons to Hitler during the campaign, rejecting them all. And now he’s been compared to a comic-book Hitler, by the guy who plays America’s greatest super soldier.

We are living in very interesting times.
