Channing Tatum Can’t Lie About ET in a Sleeping Bag on ‘Tonight Show’ ‘Box of Lies’ (Video)

Host Jimmy Fallon faces off with his first male opponent in the game of mistrust and ridiculous objects

Channing Tatum stepped into uncharted territory on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday. He was the first male guest to play “Box of Lies” with Jimmy Fallon. The game saw them pulling out ridiculous items from closed boxes. They then either told the truth to their opponent, or tried to lie, while their opponent had to decide if they believed them.

The “Foxcatcher” star kicked off with an attempted lie. He kept it close to the truth of a Chewbacca figure stuck in Jell-O. Even so, he strayed a little beyond credulity by suggesting that it was instead a bowl of chili frozen in Jell-O.

After a second attempted lie by Fallon that even he had trouble explaining, it came down to Tatum and a stuffed doll of E.T. inside a sleeping bag with crowns on it. He went for the truth on this one, because sometimes the truth is even stranger than fiction.

But did Fallon believe him after his attemped lie in the first round? More importantly, why is this game so much fun to watch, and when will it be syndicated nationwide in a half-hour format? If “Deal or No Deal” can dominate television for years, “Box of Lies” should be a cinch.

Channing Tatum can next be seen in “Foxcatcher,” in theaters Friday, Nov. 14. “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
