Chris Carney, a former MTV reality show personality and the husband of “Sonny With a Chance” star Tiffany Thornton, was killed in a car crash on Friday morning. He was 35.

State police were called to the single-vehicle crash along U.S. Highway 70 East in Hot Springs, Arkansas, at around 1:40 a.m., local news station KTHV reported.

The driver was identified as 37-year-old Ezekiel Blanton. Both Blanton and Carney were pronounced dead at the scene.

Carney is best known for his work as the lead singer in the band The Prom Kings. He was featured in the 2006 MTV reality show “twentyfourseven” that followed him and his younger brother Greg’s move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. He was also the son of the mayor of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He married Thornton, 29, in November 2011 and Demi Lovato served as one of the bridesmaids at the wedding.
The couple had two children. While they separated after the birth of their second son and Carney later accused Thornton of kidnapping, they reunited in September 2014.

It has been an especially tragic week for Thornton, now a radio personality on KLAZ 105.9 in Hot Springs, as she revealed on Instagram Thursday that her childhood friend, Brittany, had also died.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was traveling westbound, approximately six miles east of Hot Springs. Police say the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and over-corrected, leading to a collision with a tree.

There has been 12 deaths on Highway 70 since November 2014.
