Hot off the mega-success of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Chris Pratt is in early talks to join Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua‘s “The Magnificent Seven,” multiple individuals familiar with the MGM project have told TheWrap.

Written by “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto and John Lee Hancock, the post-Civil War story follows seven elite gunmen who agree to protect a small Mexican town from a gang of outlaws.

Roger Birnbaum will produce MGM’s remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” which itself was based on Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai.”

Pratt, who next stars in “Jurassic World,” is represented by CAA and Mosaic. He’s also attached to star in “Cowboy Ninja Viking” at Universal, though the studio is still seeking a director for that project.

The news was first reported by Deadline.
