Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment has partnered with Chinese filmmaker Eva Jin to develop a crime drama set in China that's set up at 20th Century Fox TV, reports Variety.

The still untitled hour-long series will follow a crime-fighting female college student studying abroad, and the network has already given the project a script order.

Smith has shown a recent interest in China after shooting "The Karate Kid" reboot there with his son, Jaden, though it remains unclear whether the project will be produced overseas.

Jin is a cartoonist-turned-filmmaker who went to school in the U.S. and directed Zhang Ziyi in the romantic comedy "Sophie's Revenge."

Overbrook's previous TV credits include the UPN/CW sitcom "All of Us." The company is also developing an hour-long dramedy based on the movie "Hitch," which starred Smith, Kevin James and Eva Mendes.
