‘Downton Abbey’ Star Maggie Smith Throws Shade Back at Jimmy Kimmel After Emmys Jab

Be warned, funnyman; the Dowager Countess is coming for her trinket

Say what you will about Maggie Smith; she can take a joke. And she can give one too.

After serving as the butt of Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes on Sunday night, the “Downton Abbey” actress shot back at Kimmel on Monday in the classiest but most effective of ways.

During Sunday night’s Emmys broadcast, after Minnie Driver and Michael Weatherly announced that Smith — who was not in attendance at the ceremony — had won the award for supporting actress in a drama series, the ABC host snatched the trophy away and declared that the Academy wouldn’t be mailing it to the actress.

“Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found,” Kimmel declared.

Challenge accepted, Kimmel.

On Monday, PBS’ Masterpiece  — which aired “Downton Abbey” — tweeted that Smith would be more than willing to hop the pond and collect her award.

“I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me,” Smith said in a delayed acceptance speech of sorts. “If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight.”

What a dame. Literally.
