The Weinstein Company has set Sept. 18 for the limited theatrical release of “Three Generations,” a transgender drama starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon.

TWC, which acquired “Three Generations” at the Cannes Film Festival two weeks ago for $6 million, announced the awards season release date on Monday.

The film, directed by Gaby Dellal, stars Fanning as a young woman transitioning to male. Watts plays her mother and Sarandon plays her grandmother, who is a lesbian.

Written by Nikole Beckwith, “Three Generations” is produced by Peter Saraf, Marc Turtletaub and Dorothy Berwin.
