HBO Releases New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Scenes as World Premiere Hits London (Video)

In new videos, Varys explains loyalty to Tyrion and Jon Snow questions Mance Rayder’s motives

HBO released two new videos from Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” on Wednesday to coincide with the star-studded red carpet world premiere that took place at the Tower of London.

In the first clip (above), Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) asks Varys (Conleth Hill) why the “Master of Whisperers” freed him from the Red Keep at the end of Season 4.

While Varys is initially coy, he eventually says that he freed Tyrion “for the Seven Kingdoms.” The Master of Whisperers has long maintained his loyalty to Westeros, going all the way back to season one when Ned Stark (Sean Bean) asked whom Varys truly served. He replied, “The realm, my lord. Someone must.”

In the next clip (below), which was previously released as part of HBO’s Raven Sight campaign, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) seems to be trying to convince Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) to swear fealty to Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane).

Snow asks Rayder if the survival of the Wildlings is more important than his pride, to which Rayder takes offense.

The videos were released to coincide with the world premiere event, which was attended by 30 castmembers, including Harrington, Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark and Season 5 newcomers like Jonathan Pryce who plays religious figure the High Sparrow.

Sky Atlantic posted photos from the event on Twitter here.

The “Game of Thrones Mix Tape Vol. 2” was also released on iTunes on Thursday, March 12. The new album features tracks by Method Man, Snoop Dogg, and Killswitch Engage. To listen to the mix tape, click here.
