Geoff Stults will star in the new Tina Fey-produced CBS comedy series “The Kicker,” TheWrap has learned.

Stults will play Daryl Thorkelson, an NFL kicker who is known more for his controversial opinions and know-it-all habits than for his skill on the field.

His need to always be the smartest guy in the room sometimes leads him to do stupid things. After bouncing around teams throughout the NFL, Daryl is coming close to the all-time scoring record but has jeopardized his entire career by writing an unapologetic book that has the NFL fandom up in arms.

Now that he’s suspended, he’s finding it hard to stay out of trouble and do something constructive with his newfound free time.

Recently, Stults appeared on the CBS series “Zoo” and “The Odd Couple” and the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie.” He also starred in the short lived sitcom “Enlisted.”

The multi-camera comedy will be executive produced by Fey, Robert Carlock, Jack Burditt and David Miner. Burditt will also write for the series. Universal Television will produce in association with Little Stranger Inc.

Stults is repped by UTA.
