Bill Cosby made his first court appearance Wednesday on a felony sexual assault charge, and attorney Gloria Allred got her own trial on social media as a result.

Cosby was arraigned in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in the case stemming from an incident 12 years ago.

Moments after the comedian posted $1 million bail, Allred held a press conference at her Los Angeles office comparing the comedian’s arrest to a Christmas morning gift.

“For many of my 29 clients who allege that they are victims of Bill Cosby, seeing him criminally charged and having to face a trial is the best Christmas present they have ever received,” Allred said of the women she represents in civil complaints against the entertainer.

Social media users were quick to react and accused Allred of “grandstanding,” as she held up a copy of Cosby’s arrest record in her manicured hands.

“Gloria Allred posing with a poster size copy of Cosby’s arrest warrant. Ugh,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Does Gloria Allred’s fee include the smirk — or is that extra?” asked another.

Allred trended on Twitter throughout Wednesday afternoon, and the reaction was overwhelmingly negative. Some of the tweets even slammed the celebrity attorney as an opportunist with little sympathy for rape victims.

“Gloria Allred is a bottom feeding ambulance chaser, she is an advocate for her bank balance, not rape victims,” wrote one critic.
