HBO will shoot and air Billy Crystal‘s broadway show, “700 Sundays,” with a premiere sometime in 2014. The premium cable network is set to tape the show on Jan. 3 and 4 in front of a live audience at the Imperial Theatre in New York.

Billy Crystal has been a beloved member of the HBO family for more than three decades,” said HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo in a statement. “It’s thrilling to us that he decided to let us film this legendary theatrical event.”

In “700 Sundays,” Crystal plays several people who were influential in his life. It spans his youth, growing up in the jazz world of Manhattan, his teenage years and, then, adulthood.

“I am thrilled to be back home at HBO,” Crystal added. “I always felt this would be the last time I would perform ‘700 Sundays.’ Taping it so more people can see the play is very exciting. Most importantly, my grandchildren and others to come will get to know about our family and its unique history.”

The HBO special will be executive-produced by Crystal, wife Janice, Larry Magid and David Steinberg. Des McAnuff will direct. Tickets for the additional performances will be available at Telecharge.com.

The show won the 2005 Tony Award for Special Theatrical Event, as well as 2005 Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle awards. Following the Broadway run, Crystal played sold-out engagements of “700 Sundays” across the U.S., and then took the show to Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. In Australia, the play won the 2007 Helpmann Award for Best Special Event.

The project reunites Crystal with HBO for a sixth solo special.
