Season 2 finale of “The Newsroom” draws 1.7 million total viewers

HBO’s “The Newsroom” was a little less bustling for its Season 2 finale than it was for its first season capper, at least in viewers.

The season finale of Aaron Sorkin‘s series on Sunday took a ratings hit compared to its Season 1 finale, drawing 1.7 million total viewers with its 10 p.m. airing.

The Season 1 finale last August drew 2.3 million total viewers, though that episode had the benefit of following the season finale of “True Blood,” which had 5 million total viewers with its initial airing.

With a re-airing taken into account, the “Newsroom” finale had 1.9 million total viewers,  compared to the 2.8 million that the Season 1 finale accumulated.
