Hulu has picked up a new season of animated superhero comedy “The Awesomes,” the online video company said Thursday

Created by “Saturday Night Live”s’ Seth Meyers and his long-time collaborator Mike Shoemaker, the show follows a group of hapless heroes who step in to replace a disbanded team of superhuman crime fighters. Meyers and Shoemaker will both return to voice their characters in the second season of the show, along with such comedy and SNL vets as Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, Taran Killam, Bill Hader and Rachel Dratch.

In a release announcing the pick-up, Meyers teased new villains, new members of the super-team and a possible love triangle.

Since launching in August, “The Awesomes” has been one of the 10 most-watched shows on Hulu and one of its top five animated comedies, the company said.

Season two will be executive produced by Meyers, Shoemaker and Broadway Video’s Andrew Singer. “The Awesomes” is a Hulu co-production with Broadway Video (“Saturday Night Live”). Bento Box Entertainment (“Bob’s Burgers”) will return as the animation studio. Judd Winick will continue to be a writer and consulting producer on the show.
