Jennifer Lawrence Tops Chris Pratt as 2014’s Highest Grossing Actor

Oscar winner pulled in over $1.4 billion with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”

Jennifer Lawrence is breaking her own records just like the franchise movies she stars in.

The Oscar-winning actress is poised to snag the No. 1 spot on Forbes’ annual list of Highest Grossing Actors of the Year, a mere four years since her breakout role in “Winter’s Bone” pulled in only $2 million.

This year, Lawrence’s financial gravitas is due in large to her starring roles in two of 2014’s most successful franchise films, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1″ and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which both grossed a combined $1.4 billion at the global box office.

Lawrence beat runner up Chris Pratt by roughly $200 million. His films, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Lego Movie,” cleared $1.2 billion in 2014.

In third place on the list is Scarlett Johansson with $1.18 billion. She scored big with action-heavy roles in Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and Luc Besson‘s “Lucy,” while also earning some money starring in the more deliberately paced indie alien drama “Under the Skin.”

Mark Wahlberg (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”) and Chris Evans (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Snowpiercer”) rounded out the top five with $1 billion and $801 million, respectively.

Angelina Jolie placed eighth, but was the only top-10 actor who didn’t star in a comic book adaptation. Her films pulled in over $750 million, mostly from Disney’s “Maleficient,” in which she played the titular villain.

The remainder of the Top Ten list included James McAvoy ($747 million), Michael Fassbender ($747 million) and Hugh Jackman ($746 million) — who each starred alongside Lawrence in “X-Men Days of Future Past” — and “Amazing Spider-Man 2’s” Emma Stone ($764 million).

With “Avengers 2: Age of Ultron” (starring Johansson and Evans), “Jurassic World” (Pratt) and “Mockingjay Part 2” (Lawrence) all slated for a 2015 release, one might reasonably expect many of the same faces to populate next year’s list.
