Jimmy Kimmel Discovers Far Too Many People Don’t Know Martin Luther King, Jr. Is Dead (Video)

An MLK Day edition of “Lie Witness News” asked people to comment on a speech the civil rights leader supposedly gave that morning

Jimmy Kimmel described Monday’s edition of “Lie Witness News” as “the most disturbing” one yet, and for good reason: He caught seven people on camera who did not know Martin Luther King, Jr. has been dead for over four decades.

“Usually it takes us a while to find enough people who are dopey enough to put a whole thing together, and sometimes it takes hours out there,” Kimmel told his viewers. “But today on Martin Luther King Day, this took almost no time at all.”

Out of the 14 people approached to comment on a fictional speech they were told the celebrated civil rights leader gave on Monday morning, half of them pretended they heard it.

“I was shocked,” one young man told Kimmel’s camera crew. “I just couldn’t believe it. I was like, ‘How could it happen?’ I haven’t heard him talk for a while.”
