John C. Reilly Surprises David Letterman With Unexpected ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Clip (Video)

The footage doesn’t look like anything seen so far from the film, but Reilly says after seeing it, “I think that was me”

John C. Reilly plays a member of the Nova Corp in Marvel’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy.” He’s the law enforcement officer who arrests the various members of the titular team, leading to their formation. He brought a clip with him from the movie — or at least a movie — for his appearance on “Late Show.”

David Letterman didn’t appear to know what was coming when Reilly let the clip role, but it wasn’t from “Guardians” at all. It was from an old black-and-white film, featuring a man in a crude spacesuit launching into the air with a rocket pack on his back.

It is actually similar to the mode of transportation used by the actual members of Marvel’s Nova Corp, though far more simplistic and actually more ridiculous looking than a talking raccoon and tree fighting side by side.

“Really?” was all Letterman could muster in response to the clip.

“Like I said, I haven’t seen the movie yet,” Reilly said with a laugh. “I’m still looking forward to it. I mean, I’m in it. I think that was me.”
