John Oliver Races Through the Coming School Year in 4 Minutes (Video)

“Last Week Tonight” host offers advice for english, math, history and science students during taping hiatus

John Oliver might be on vacation, but he knows that kids are heading back to school , and the HBO host couldn’t leave them hanging. So Oliver compiled a quick back-to-school guide in a web-only clip from “Last Week Tonight.”

The host went class by class, offering advice on how to excel in subjects such as math, biology, chemistry and even world history.

“You will also learn that Arica and Asia are places, but that’s about it,” Oliver said. “You will leave school knowing as much about those two continents as I know about actor Penn Badgley; you’ll know it’s something that exists in the world, but you won’t be able to give any facts about it other than the general shape.”

In English classes, Oliver said that the only thing a student can do wrong is to forget who dies at the end of books. Therefore, the show has compiled “John Oliver‘s Guide to Who Dies at the End,” listing “Romeo and Juliet,” “Of Mice and Men,” “The Jungle” and “The Great Gatsby.”

“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” returns on Sept. 13.
