The trio of chipmunks are back and squeakier than ever in “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.”

In the new trailer released by 20th Century Fox, the chipmunks come to believe that their best friend Dave (Jason Lee) will propose to his girlfriend in New York City and leave them behind. Alvin, Simon and Theodore — voiced by Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney, respectively — have three days to go on an epic road trip and stop the proposal.

Walt Becker directed the screenplay by Adam Sztkiel. Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian produced. Bella Thorne and Kimberly Williams-Paisley also star.

The live-action film is the fourth installment in the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie series.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” opens in theaters on Dec. 23.
