Kanye West took it to the streets on Sunday night when he tried to stage a last-minute concert outside of Webster Hall in New York City, but it didn’t go so well.

West was scheduled to headline the Governor’s Ball that same night, but bad weather forced the event to be canceled. West decided to make it up to them that very night.

First things first, he popped over to New Jersey for the Hot 97 Summer Jam and jumped onstage for a surprise appearance. Shortly thereafter, he and his team shared details on social media that West would be performing outside Webster Hall.

An estimated 4,000 people showed up around 2 a.m. for the chance to see West in the flesh. He rolled in and stood up through his car’s sun roof as fans chased him down the street. Unfortunately, the police are more concerned with public safety than they are rap.

The event was shut down before it even started due to safety concerns over having so many people blocking up the street.

West’s wife, Kim Kardashian-West, shared a Snapchat video apologizing on behalf of her husband. “We tried. He tried so hard, but it was just bigger,” she said. “The cops just really wouldn’t allow it.”

Here’s one glimpse at the fans who stormed the street to meet West.
