Sylvester Stallone stars in the sequel alongside Jason Statham, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson

Fresh off a villainous turn in “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” Kelsey Grammer is signing on to replace Nicolas Cage in “The Expendables 3,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Sequel will find Grammer playing an ex-mercenary named Bonaparte who helps Sylvester Stallone‘s team of brutes complete their mission, which remains unknown.

Stallone and Grammer will be joined by familiar faces Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as franchise newcomers Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes.

Grammer recently filmed John Herzfeld’s “Reach Me” with Stallone, who kept him in mind when the “Expendables 3” role opened up.
