Kristen Bell’s Mary Poppins Quits Her Minimum-Wage Job (Video)

In the new Funny or Die video, Bell skewers the Poppins image by complaining about how much those cartoon birds cost

You think this economy is giving you the squeeze? Just ask Mary Poppins.

The jokesters at Funny or Die imagined how the musical nanny, played by Kristen Bell, would fare in today’s economy. In the new video, Bell’s Poppins quits her job because apparently Mr. Banks is only paying her the minimum wage.

To the tune of the iconic “Just a Spoonful of Sugar,” Bell sings, “Just a three-dollar increase can make a living wage … I don’t get these birds for free.”

In addition to letting the kids know about the stark reality of today’s income gap, a group of cartoon penguins demonstrates how working multiple jobs can wear on a family. The video was written by Eliza Skinner of “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” and Jake Fogelnest of “Best Week Ever.”

Singing Disney characters isn’t a foreign concept to Bell, who earned praise for her role in “Frozen.” We can’t wait for a sequel, with Poppins working a shift at Costco to make ends meet.
