Attorney Lisa Bloom announced Saturday afternoon that she has resigned as an adviser to embattled Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, who took an extended leave of absence from his company this week following reports of longtime sexual misconduct.
“My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement,” added Bloom.

Bloom has been known for representing women who have accused celebrities of sexual misconduct, most notably Bill Cosby and Bill O’Reilly. But she had come under fire for her advocacy on behalf of Weinstein, particularly since The Weinstein Company had been developing a TV docuseries about Trayvon Martin based on one of her books, “Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It.”
Among Bloom’s critics was her own mother, Gloria Allred, who said she would have declined to represent Weinstein and would rather represent his accusers instead.
Following the release of the New York Times expose on Weinstein on Thursday, Bloom defended her advocacy of Weinstein, calling him an “old dinosaur learning new ways.”
“As a women’s rights advocate, I have been blunt with Harvey and he has listened to me,” Bloom said. “I have told him that times have changed, it is 2017, and he needs to evolve to a higher standard. I have found Harvey to be refreshingly candid and receptive to my message. He has acknowledged mistakes he has made.”
