The third season of “Salem” premieres tonight, and marks the introduction of a new character played by none other than music icon Marilyn Manson.

Manson plays Thomas Dinley, a 17th century barber. But as Manson explains, barbers in this era were not quite the same as those we know today.

“The sign outside of Thomas Dinley’s practice says, ‘Tooth Pulling, Enemas, Hot Shaves,’ and things like that,” Manson told TheWrap. “It’s the place where you go when you don’t know what else to do. He’s a guy that nobody trusts but he’s the guy you go to when you need to be discreet.”

But did he get to practice his barber skills on the rest of the cast?

“I don’t think there were any enemas,” he said. “They didn’t let me get to that. I would have definitely done enemas on any of them for the sheer thrill of it.”

Manson also said that his character practices alchemy, a precursor to modern medicine that is “somewhere between witchcraft and science.”

“This was an era of unknown things,” he continued. “The first scene I shot was him performing an autopsy. His curiosity seemed to be more of ‘Is there a soul inside there?’”

The third season of “Salem” begins with the triumph of the witches’ plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital.

But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself. And there’s only one person on earth who can beat the devil — his mother, Mary Sibley. The only problem is she’s dead. Or is she?

“Salem” Season 3 premieres on Nov. 2 at 9 p.m./8c on WGN America.
