Marvel Shifts ‘Thor 3,’ ‘Black Panther’ Release Dates to Accommodate ‘Spider-Man’ Partnership

“Captain Marvel” and “Inhumans” also pushed back

On the heels of the news that Sony and Marvel are partnering on future appearances of Spider-Man, including within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the comic book franchise studio has announced new release dates for currently scheduled upcoming films.

“Thor: Ragnarok,” which had been scheduled for Jul 28, 2017, has been pushed back and will now release on Nov 3, 2017. This is directly making room for Sony’s “Spider-Man” film, which will now open on “Thor’s” original date.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU) before headlining his own film, produced by Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal.

As a result, every upcoming Marvel film following “Spider-Man” has been pushed back one slot.

“Black Panther,” originally slotted in the Nov. 3, 2017 date, will now open on Jul. 6, 2018. “Captain Marvel” will move out of that Jul. 6, 2018 spot and into Nov. 2, 2018.

“Inhumans” had been slated for Nov. 2, 2018 and will now open on Jul. 12, 2019.

The new Sony partnership does not affect “Ant-Man” or “Doctor Strange,” which will still be released on Jul. 17, 2015 and Nov. 4, 2016, respectively.
