Alfred Molina Needs a Soccer Star in ‘Matador’ Extended Trailer (Exclusive Video and Key Art)

El Rey’s spy-turned-soccer star drama is created by “Star Trek” and “Transformers” writer Roberto Orci

Alfred Molina recruits a CIA agent to be his newest soccer star in a new extended trailer for the El Rey drama “Matador.”

Gabriel Luna (“NCIS: Los Angeles”) plays the spy tasked with impressing Molina (“Spider-Man 2”), the coach of fictional soccer team the L.A. Riot. He’s trying to achieve the kind of fame and notoriety that will get him access to powerful forces of corruption and villainy.

“Star Trek” writer and producer Roberto Orci created the thriller with Dan Dworkin, Jay Beattie and Andrew Orci.

Orci’s longtime creative partner Alex Kurtzman is executive producing with him, along with Dworkin, Beattie and Heather Kadin, plus El Rey Network co-founders Robert Rodriguez, John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa.

“Matador,” which co-stars  Nicky Whelan (“Hall Pass”) Neil Hopkins (“True Blood”), Tanc Sade (“90210”), Yvette Monreal (“Awkward”) and Elizabeth Peña (“Modern Family”), premieres on El Rey on July 15. Rodriguez directs the first episode.
