Michael Keaton Pocketing Planned Oscar Acceptance Speech Goes Viral (Video)

The “Birdman” star was caught on camera slipping his speech into his jacket after losing to Eddie Redmayne

Michael Keaton‘s “Birdman” character expressed disdain for “going viral” several times in Best Picture of the Year Oscar winner, but hopefully the actor, himself, doesn’t mind.

An eagle-eyed viewer caught Keaton slipping what is believed to be prepared remarks back into his pocket after “Theory of Everything” star Eddie Redmayne was named Best Actor winner during Sunday’s Academy Awards. Since being posted to Vine, the clip has been looped nearly 20 million times.

It’s important to note, however, that nobody really knows whether it was his planned acceptance speech or not. The actor accepted quite a few awards for his performance in “Birdman,” and did so without the aide of notes in his hand.

Keaton, an accomplished actor with a career spanning forty years, isn’t the first awards season loser to be immortalized on the internet. The agony of defeat was captured on Taylor Swift‘s face during last year’s Grammys, and Leonardo DiCaprio‘s fifth Oscar defeat inspired a parade of “poor Leo” memes.
