Chris Rock has joined the cast of "2 Days in New York," Julie Delpy's sequel to her 2007 romantic dramedy "2 Days in Paris," an individual familiar with the project has confirmed to TheWrap.
It's unclear how large Rock's role will be, but Delpy's Marion will have a child and a new lover in the film, so it's possible (though unlikely) that Rock could be playing the latter character.
The original starred Adam Goldberg, and while his character will be the father of Delpy's child, he won't appear in the sequel, which Delpy has previously described as being about "the difficulty of relationships, but also about the main character’s evolution in general. It’s a very modern story about the complexities of being a woman and not being completely consumed by your partner."
Delpy's own father, Albert, will reprise his role as Marion's father in the film.
Production is scheduled to begin in October, as the filmmakers are said to be eyeing a Cannes 2011 debut.
While Rock most recently joined his "Saturday Night Live" buddies Adam Sandler, David Spade and Rob Schneider in "Grown Ups," he's clearly not content to rest on his comedy laurels.
The ambitious actor/filmmaker recently starred in two remakes of foreign films -- "Death at a Funeral" and "I Think I Love My Wife" -- and the notoriously foul-mouthed comic has also expressed interest in remaking the French hit "Le premiere toile." He's also been working on writing a remake of Akira Kurosawa's kidnapping tale "High & Low" for director Mike Nichols.
Rock is represented by ICM, and his casting was first mentioned in a tweet from Production Weekly.
