EXCLUSIVE

Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke will star opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan in "The Courier," an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Additionally, "Inglourious Basterds" star Til Schweiger has joined the cast as an FBI agent, the German actor's representation at Anonymous Content has confirmed to TheWrap.

Hany Abu-Assad ("Paradise Now") will direct the action thriller from a script by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt ("3:10 to Yuma").

Morgan plays a courier who has tackled dangerous assignments and never missed a drop. He's hired to deliver a briefcase to a notorious crime boss who can't be found. The courier finds himself pursued by corrupt cops, double-crossing feds and rivals from the criminal underworld.

Arclight Films is financing the picture, which Cary Brokaw will produce and Morgan will exec produce.

Production is scheduled to begin later this month in New Orleans.

Rourke recently starred in "Iron Man 2" and "The Expendables." He'll soon be seen opposite Megan Fox and Bill Murray in Mitch Glazer's "Passion Play," and he also features in the macho ensemble of Gela Babluani's "13." Meanwhile, Rourke just wrapped Tarsem's "Immortals," in which he stars as King Hyperion.

Schweiger just joined the cast of McG's 20th Century Fox comedy "This Means War," which stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as best friends and spies who wage war over Reese Witherspoon. Schweiger will play an arms dealer in the comedy.

Rourke is represented by ICM.

Variety first reported Schweiger's casting in "The Courier" and "This Means War."
