Michael Mann plans to direct "Gold," from a spec script that Paul Haggis brought him, TheWrap has confirmed.
Haggis, Mann and Michael Nozik will produce.
The movie is a thriller about a search for gold.
An individual familiar with the project told TheWrap that Haggis found the spec script, by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, and brought it to Mann.
Haggis couldn't direct because he had other commitments.
There are no other attachments.
Mann has been known to package projects before, and will develop "Gold" internally, as he did with "Heat," before bringing it to studios.
The individual familiar with the project said it's still early in the process.
Mann, Massett and Zinman are repped by CAA.
