Marti Noxon is moving from vampires to zombies.

The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer and producer -- and "Fright Night" and "I Am Number Four" writer -- has polished Lionsgate's "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" script, ItsontheGrid is reporting.

Director Craig Gillespie signed onto the project in April, so it makes sense that he'd want a better match his vision. And he directed Noxon's "Fright Night."

Several writers have written drafts, including David O. Russell.

The script Noxon polished is Russell's.

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" hasn't yet been cast and already is generating significant buzz. The book, by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on the Jane Austen novel, was a bestseller. Natalie Portman was originally going to play the lead, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. She remained a producer on the project, however.

In the movie, feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet courageously battles the zombie menace, but is distracted in her efforts to preserve England by the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy. Darko's Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm also are producing.
