Rovio making the studio rounds in search of best offer for hit iPod/iPad game
Move over Alfred Hitchcock.
"Angry Birds," the popular iPhone and iPad game, may be getting the feature film treatment.
Rovio, the Finnish creator of the hit game, has been making the Hollywood rounds the past few weeks, meeting with various studios and agencies in search of the best offer, reports Variety.
"Angry Birds" has sold more than 6.5 million downloads, and Rovio is looking to exploit the brand while its hot by developing everything from movies and TV shows to toys and comic books.
The game has players use a slingshot to help a flock of birds battle a group of evil pigs who stole their eggs. It cells for 99 cents in the U.S., and the $4.99 iPad version has been downloaded over 200,000 times, while an animated trailer promoting the game has been viewed more than five million times on YouTube.
The social network gaming business is expected to reach $1.5 billion within the next four years, and Rovio plans to take advantage of that growth by developing sequels and other versions of the "Angry Birds" game that "expands the universe and the brand."
Radar Pictures and producer Ted Field are already developing a movie based on Zynga's popular Facebook game "Mafia Wars."
