Will Smith to Star in 'The Legend of Cain' ... With Fangs

OK, I thought the Magic 8-Ball movie was the last straw for me, but now I have officially heard it all.

According to Deadline, "I Am Legend" star Will Smith is attached to produce and play the title character in "The Legend of Cain," an epic re-telling of the Biblical sibling story … with a vampire twist.

Um, how many movies with "Legend" in the title that involve vampires (more or less) does Smith feel compelled to make?

How in the world could this be considered a good idea? If God does in fact exist, He should smite this ludicrous-sounding project with His full wrath.

I mean, why not just have Martin Lawrence play Abel, and turn the movie into a mash-up of "Bad Boys" and "I Am Legend?"

Smith will also produce with his Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz, as well as his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Keeping it in the family, the screenplay was written by Caleeb Pinkett (Jada's brother) and Dan Knauf ("Carnivale"), with Andrea Berloff ("World Trade Center") revising the script.

There's no studio or director attached, but expect Hollywood to come calling soon, considering Smith is the biggest movie star on the planet and Overbrook's last film, a remake of "The Karate Kid" starring Smith's son Jaden, was a surprise hit (not to me -- it looked great and lived up to my expectations) that has grossed more than $210 million worldwide so far.

Smith is currently promoting that film around the world before he begins filming Sony's "Men in Black 3" in August.

Between this project and the Allen Counter movie that Smith recently signed on to produce, I think he and his Overbrook partners need to rethink the company's strategy. This one has disaster written all over it.
