Nancy Drew Series Gets Pilot Order From CBS

Network also orders adaptation of Australian series “Upper Middle Bogan” to pilot

CBS has ordered a pilot for a new series based on the Nancy Drew book series, TheWrap has learned.

“Drew” follows Nancy, now a detective for the NYPD in her 30s, as she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.

Joan Rather and Tony Phelan will write and executive produce the pilot, with Dan Jinks also executive producing. CBS Television Studios will produce.

The network also ordered a pilot for a new comedy based on the Australian series “Upper Middle Bogan.” In the show, a wife and mother learns she was adopted and that her birth parents are a flamboyant but loving family of drag racers.

Dan O’Shannon, Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope are writing and executive producing the pilot. Todd Holland will also executive produce. CBS Television Studio is producing in association with ABC Studios and Dark Toy Entertainment.

CBS previously gave put pilot commitments for two new crime dramas from “Supergirl” executive producer Greg Berlanti. The first, “Out of Body” from writer Jennifer Johnson, follows a criminal who finds himself transported into the bodies of people in peril, and must use his experience to keep from being killed.

A second untitled pilot from writer Chris Fedak follows a young billionaire tech genius who utilizes his cutting-edge technology and resources to partner with a street-smart but old-school San Francisco police detective.
