Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings has a lot to smile about lately: The streaming giant just posted another smashing quarterly report, its shares have increased 60 percent since the start of the year, and on Tuesday, he was named one of Forbes 400 Richest Americans for the first time.
Hastings comes in tied with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on the list at number 359, with a net worth of about $2.2 billion. The 57-year-old exec’s fortune is largely tied up in Netflix stock, which is hovering near its all-time high of about $200 a share.
The company announced on Monday it added another 5.3 million subscribers across the globe in its third quarter, growing its customer count to nearly 110 million worldwide. Netflix recently announced a price increase on two of its subscriber tiers, with the company upping its content budget in 2018 from $7 billion to $8 billion.
The Forbes list was littered with other tech heavyweights. Bill Gates and his $89 billion locked up the number one spot; Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is on his heels in the second slot, with an $81.5 billion net worth. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg continues to make his push for the richest American title, coming in fourth behind Warren Buffett with $71 billion to his name.
One interesting tech subplot from the Forbes list — Snap chief exec Evan Spiegel and his co-founder Bobby Murphy tied with President Trump at number 248 with roughly $3.1 billion.
