Nintendo Switch Revealed: Here’s Your First Look at New Hybrid Gaming System (Video)

Home console/mobile combo will hit (and likely fly off) the shelves in March 2017

The Nintendo Switch was unveiled Thursday morning, much to the delight of the truly worldwide web. And the versatile home console and mobile combo system could have been the most 2016 thing ever, if gamers didn’t have to wait until next year to buy it.

The lengthy initial commercial opens with a guy playing what appears to be a standard home console gaming system in his living room. But when the dog’s gotta go, the dog’s gotta go — especially this giant beast. Rather than pressing pause for later, the extreme morning person pulls off the titular “Switch,” converting his traditional-looking controller into one that’ll work on the go via an accompanying tablet.

Everyone’s happy — including the pooch, who’s getting exercise, but not much attention. Someone may want to “switch” priorities.

The next scene takes place on an airplane travel day, when one could probably most use the company of such a device. The scenarios get a bit less likely from there, most notably the bros cutting short their basketball game to play a basketball video game on-court.

The three-minute, 36-second ad closes with a mega eSports event, a clear attempt to brand the Switch small-but-mighty. Watch the video above.

Nintendo Switch hits stores in March 2017, when TheWrap readers can expect it will fly off the shelves.
