Orlando Bloom is about to take a vacation from stand-up paddle-boarding on vacation: The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is set to star on Amazon’s one-hour fantasy noir series, “Carnival Row.”

Bloom will play Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl. Rycroft is not supposed to care about the death of another faerish refugee, but he does, and getting to the bottom of what happened to her will come at a big cost, per Amazon’s official description.

“Carnival Row” is set in a neo-Victorian city, the streaming service continued. Mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland have gathered in the city, and tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. Fans will follow the investigation of a string of unsolved murders which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.

In addition to sharing his pretty face with the world, Bloom also earns a producer credit on the Legendary Television-produced show, which will be written and executive produced by showrunner Rene Echevarria. Paul McGuigan will direct and executive produce. Travis Beacham is also an executive producer, and he wrote the original feature script, “A Killing on Carnival Row,” which appeared on the very first installment of the Hollywood Blacklist in 2005.

“Carnival Row” is scheduled to begin filming this fall for a 2019 release. It has an 8-episode order.

Bloom is repped by Lighthouse Management and Media, ICM, Independent UK, and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
