Showtime went for polar opposites in an intriguing new teaser for Season 5 of its hit dark dramedy “Shameless.” Juxtaposing members of the dysfunctional Gallagher clan with positive affirmations makes for an almost hilarious association.
William H. Macy‘s Frank Gallagher is anything but “beautiful inside and out,” while Emmy Rossum‘s Fiona absolutely is chaos. And while she strives to be a good person, she more often goes the other way.
There were unique affirmations for each member of the Gallagher family, save the youngest, Liam (Brennan Kane Johnson & Blake Alexander Johnson).
Self-destructive Lip (Jeremy Allen White) advised he would “create positive changes” in his life, while the depraved Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) promised to honor his talents. Now that’s a terrifying thought.
In between the jarring affirmations are scenes of familiar Gallagher family insanity, which are sure to play out with equal parts uncomfortable and funny when “Shameless” returns next year.
