‘Richie Rich’ Netflix Series Releases First Live Action Trailer (Video)

‘Dark Skies’ actor Jake Brennan stars as the richest kid in the world in the new streaming series

Netflix released the first trailer for its live action update of “Richie Rich” on Wednesday.

TheWrap exclusively reported that Netflix was developing the series from AwesomenessTV in October.

In the update of the 1980s cartoon, which in turn was based on a comic series from the 1950s, Richie Rich (Jake Brennan) is a boy genius who turns the vegetables he refused to eat into a cheap, clean energy source. As a result, he now has over a trillion dollars in the bank. That’s trillion with a “T.”

In the trailer, Richie’s enjoying his newfound wealth, and has moved his family into a massive mansion with every toy and contraption you can imagine. With no need to work for the next few lifetimes, Richie decides to spend his days by having fun inventing things and playing with his friends.

Co-founder and CEO of AwesomenessTV Brian Robbins, Tim Pollock and Jeff Hodsden will serve as executive producers. Pollock and Hodsden will also serve as “Richie Rich’s” showrunners. Their credits include Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” “The Suite Life on Deck” and “A.N.T. Farm.”

Macaulay Caulkin previously played the character in a 1994 live-action movie. The series will be multi-camera, sitcom format, continuing Netflix’s expansion into original content. All episodes will be available for streaming in North and Latin America on Feb. 20.
