‘Live With Kelly’ Has a Favorite Guest Host From ‘Grinder’ – And it’s Not Rob Lowe

Maybe we were considering the wrong (sitcom) brother this whole time …

Rob Lowe was generally considered one of the frontrunners to replace Michael Strahan as Kelly Ripa‘s “Live” co-host, but perhaps we targeted the wrong “Grinder” actor this whole time.

Somewhat glaringly, Lowe hasn’t guest co-hosted ABC’s “Live” even once since the revolving door of potential suitors kicked off on May 16. We already know who will be there through July 15, and Lowe’s not on the list.

Interestingly, there is someone from Fox’s now-defunct “The Grinder” who will have performed that exact task five times by then: Lowe’s co-star, Fred Savage. Who would have guessed he would be the chosen one out of the recent sitcom brothers?

Savage – the former child star of “The Wonder Years” fame – isn’t alone as a recurring “Live” guest co-host, he’s just outpacing everyone else. Other multiple time co-hosts through mid-July will be: Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Jim Parsons, Carrie Ann Inaba, Joel McHale, Jerry O’Connell, D.L. Hughley and Jussie Smollett. Of all of them, though, only the CNN personality is on the schedule even three times.

So a question for executive producer Michael Gelman: What are we supposed to take from this? Were we considering the wrong “Grinder” actor to stayed seated beside Ripa this whole time? (The sitcom starred Lowe as a slick actor who pretends to be a lawyer beside his real-life lawyer brother, played by Savage.)

Savage was (at least initially) hesitant about his second go in the actual acting world, so perhaps a morning talk show suits the “Wonder Years” alum a bit better.

Disney didn’t immediately return a request for comment, nor did a PR rep for Savage.
