Shannen Doherty shaved her head in light of her battle with breast cancer and shared the intimate experience on social media.
In six moving black-and-white pictures, the former “90210” star spoke volumes on the struggles of living with cancer without saying a word. One of the pictures showed an emotional Doherty, 45, being held by her mom, while another shows the actress taking the scissors and cutting her own hair.
Doherty’s friend, Anne Kortright-Shilstat, was also with her when she shaved her head. She shared her own Instagram picture in support of the “Charmed” star.
“I couldn’t be prouder of you today. Your strength and courage is so inspiring and I am so very lucky to have you in my life. Thank you for blindly trusting me today to help you with such a big step. I will forever be there for you no matter what. #f—cancer,” Kortright-Shilstat captioned the post.
Doherty’s battle with cancer was brought to the spotlight when she sued her former business management firm after her health insurance lapsed, TMZ reported.
The actress spoke openly about removing her breasts to fight the disease during an appearance on “The Dr. Oz Show” last February. The TV doctor told then Entertainment Tonight he is confident her doctors can save her.
“She had to come to grips with the fear — sometimes that fear has paralyzed her over the past year,” he said. “Thankfully, if we aggressively can treat it, we can save Shannen’s life, and her doctors are superb and they’re all over that decision.”
