Stephen Colbert Rips Florida for Surprise Simulated School Shooting (Video)

Cops left students with PTSD: “Pretend Traumatic Stress Disorder”

You can never be too prepared for a real-life emergency — unless you are a cop, student or teacher in the Sunshine State. On Wednesday, Stephen Colbert showed sarcastic support for police and administrators in Florida, where a surprise school shooter drill left kids terrified and parents furious.

Law enforcement agents with AR-15 rifles burst into Jewett Academy classrooms unannounced, leaving the school’s occupants to think it was a real active-shooter attack. Some teens even texted their parents for help.

“Typical teens, can’t even stop texting at gunpoint,” Colbert quipped. “For Pete’s sake! We’ve got visitors — put the phone down and crap your pants.”

The drill left kids with PTSD, “Pretend Traumatic Stress Disorder,” the comedian said.

On the plus side, he added, in the event of a real emergency, students will be glad that they had all of those practice nightmares from the drill.
