‘Supergirl’ Is Part Romantic Comedy, Part Action Adventure in New Series Promo (Video)

Cast and creators take viewers behind the scenes of CBS superhero drama

CBS’ “Supergirl” can deflect bullets and keep a plane from crashing, but the latest promo for the new superhero series shows that she can cross the boundaries of TV genre as well.

The three-minute long video, the cast and creators behind the show, including Supergirl herself Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockart and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg, talk through the origins, powers and personality of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin who’s getting her own moment in the spotlight.

Not only is she a caped crusader out to spread goodness throughout National City, but the show also functions as a workplace comedy, romantic comedy and action adventure in turn, according to the new video.

On the drama, Chyler Leigh plays Alex Danvers, Kara’s older foster sister and David Harewood stars as Hank Henshaw, a former CIA agent and now the head of Department of Extra-Normal Operations.

Others cast in the series include Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, “Nashville” alum Laura Benanti as Supergirl’s birth mother and former Superman and Supergirl Dean Cain and Helen Slater, respectively, in mystery roles.

Berlanti and Adler are writing the one-hour drama, and also executive producing, along with Kreisberg and Sarah Schecter. Berlanti also serves as producer of “Pan.”

“Supergirl” premieres on Oct. 26 on CBS.
