After guiding “The Perfect Guy” to a $26 million opening weekend, David M. Rosenthal has been set to direct Sierra Pictures’ action thriller “How It Ends,” the company announced Tuesday.

Brooks McClaren wrote the script, which follows a young father who will stop at nothing to get home to his pregnant wife on the other side of the country when a mysterious apocalyptic event turns the roads into mayhem.

“How It Ends” is being produced by Paul Schiff Productions as well as Sierra Pictures, which is developing and financing the project. Sierra’s Nick Meyer will executive produce.

Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales of the project, while Kelly McCormick, the company’s executive VP of production and development, will oversee the production.

Prior to “The Perfect Guy,” Rosenthal previously directed the Sam Rockwell thriller “A Single Shot” and the indie rom-com “Falling Up.” He’s represented by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Alex Kohner of Morris Yorn.
