Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Ends Robert Downey Jr.’s Reign as Highest Paid Actor in the World

Action star outpaces Jackie Chan, Matt Damon, and Tom Cruise to top Forbes’ annual ranking

Dwayne Johnson‘s nonstop work ethic is paying off — literally.

The Rock is now the world’s highest paid actor, according to Forbes, who estimate his earnings for the last year at a staggering $64.5 million, taking down three time list-topper Robert Downey Jr., who slipped into ninth place on this year’s annual ranking with $33 million.

Johnson ranked number 11 last year with around $31 million, meaning he has more than doubled his earnings. This is due in large part to the success of movies like “San Andreas,” “Central Intelligence,” his HBO series “Ballers,” and his fee for the upcoming “Baywatch” movie.

He also launched his own lifestyle brand, Project Rock, that includes an endorsement deal with Under Armour and his own app, The Rock Clock.

Jackie Chan once again ranked number two with $61 million. Despite the fact Chan hasn’t had a hit a movie in the United States in years, he continues to rake in money thanks to the burgeoning Chinese box office.

Harrison Ford also made the cut this year, coming in at number 20 with $15 million. Ford appeared in the blockbuster hit “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” reprising his iconic role of Han Solo.
