Tyrese Says He’ll Retire His ‘Fast and Furious’ Character if The Rock Is in ‘Fast 9’

The #FastFamily Instagram drama continues

Tyrese Gibson is threatening to retire his “Fast and Furious” character if Dwayne Johnson is also in the ninth installment of the franchise.

“Hello loyal fans and loved ones from OUR fast universe,” Gibson said in an Instagram post on Wednesday featuring a photo of Gibson and Johnson with their co-star Vin Diesel. “I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne [sic] is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce [sic] – You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours.”

Gibson previously called out Johnson for moving forward on a solo spin-off movie, complaining that it would affect the “Fast Nine” movie.

“I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can’t let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date,” Gibson wrote in a since-deleted post back in September.

He also referenced the “Candy Ass” feud between Johnson and Diesel. “Close your eyes dude you’re a “Clown”…… #CandyAssB—-Made,” Gibson said in his post on Wednesday.

The “Candy Ass” feud Gibson references was reportedly between Johnson and Diesel. “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t,” Johnson said in a since-deleted Instagram post last year. “The ones that don’t are too chicken s— to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses.”

Diesel was apparently unbothered by the dig, which supposedly stemmed from decisions he made as a producer on “Fast 8” that Johnson disagreed with.

“I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed… but it would be unfair to say it is anyone’s fault,” Diesel said in another Instagram post back in October.

“As we plot the course to expand the Fast & Furious universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here,” he said. “The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fan’s [sic] perspective has been instrumental in procuring success. However, like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance.”

The ninth “Fast and Furious” movie is currently set for release on April 18, 2019.
