Dinesh D’Souza made plenty of waves with his hit 2012 documentary “2016: Obama’s America,” which purported to show what would transpire were President Obama to be re-elected.
Now he’s created an eight-minute addition to the film, which will be available online and walks viewers through the year’s developments. If you missed it, Obama was indeed re-elected.
“When I made these predictions in ‘2016’ I realized it would be incomplete as events were happening so quickly,” noted D’Souza, an author and filmmaker .

“It is important to me to be able to continue this conversation with fans of the film and keep them updated as we see our predictions played out,” he said. “Obama is indeed attempting to remake America at a frightening pace and it’s important that Americans have the information and the tools to stop him. It’s also a way for us to thank our fans for the spectacular box-office results they gave us.”
Released four months prior to the election, “2016: Obama’s America” brought in more than $33 million domestically and was 2012’s highest-grossing documentary. It’s No. 2 on the all-time list, behind only Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which took in $222 million worldwide.

“2016” producer Gerald R. Molen, whose credits include “Schindler’s List” and “Jurassic Park,” saw the short film’s release as breaking new ground.
“The idea of shooting and releasing an update to an already released film is a first as far as I know,” Molen said. “Modern technology is allowing us to continue a conversation with our fans beyond the release of a film. I think it’s great.”
D’Souza is currently working on a follow-up to “2016” called “America,’ which is due in theaters around July 4 next year. The film will look at “the meaning of what America the country was, is and should be,” according to the author.
