If controversy can be good for traditional TV ratings, it is essentially a sure thing for the social media version.

Lifetime biopic “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B” topped Nielsen’s Twitter TV Ratings for the most recent week, generating 997,000 tweets from 258,000 authors. The TV movie scored more than 56 million Impressions, with a Unique Audience of 3.4 million Twitter users.

Ranking behind Saturday’s Aaliyah telecast was Sunday’s “Walking Dead” on AMC. In third place was ESPN’s “30 for 30”; the Hollywood Film Awards finished fourth.

“Scandal” rounded out the Top 5.

Two FX shows — “American Horror Story” and “Sons of Anarchy” — were next on the specific list, which omits sports. Regulars “The Voice” and “WWE Monday Night Raw” followed, with VH1’s “You Oughta Know Live in Concert” closing out the Top 10 among series and specials.
