Aaron Sorkin’s Cable News Series Picked Up by HBO

Series will star Jeff Daniels as a cable anchor and Sam Waterston as his boss

HBO has given the green light to the Untitled Aaron Sorkin Project and given it the go-ahead for a full series, the cable outlet announced Thursday.

The as-yet-untitled project (it had previously held the working title "More as This Story Develops"), which had been in the pilot stage, stars Jeff Daniels as a cable news anchor and Emily Mortimer as his new executive producer and Sam Waterston as his boss.

Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel and Thomas Sadoski round out the cast as Daniels' newsroom staff.

"Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements," the show's log line notes.

Former "West Wing" honcho Sorkin serves as executive producer and wrote the pilot; Scott Rudin and Alan Poul are also executive-producing. Greg Mottola ("Superbad") directed the pilot.
